Feedback from our first consultation (July 2020)

*based on 629 verified comments from 123 respondents to our paper survey and thamesroad.commonplace.is

After holding our first round of consultation in July 2020 we are excited to share our updated designs with you. We received feedback from over 120 local residents, with two-thirds broadly supportive of our proposals. We are delighted residents were optimistic about what the development could bring to the area, in particular the new public green space, primary school, leisure facilities, walking and cycling routes.

We have listened and are excited to share the next step of the design journey before a ‘hybrid’ planning application is submitted. That means the eastern side of the site will be seeking permission in detail, ready to start construction, and the western part of the masterplan will be provided in ‘outline’, with architectural details agreed with the council and community at a later date.

The Masterplan

The masterplan has been further developed, notably removing the multi-storey car-park, widening streets and breaking up blocks. The new primary school has also been relocated to the centre of the site from Thames Road.

Connectivity through the site and beyond is a key priority, particularly pedestrian and cycling routes to DLR stations at Pontoon Dock, Prince Regent and London City Airport, to maximise sustainable transport.

Front doors onto the varied streets create activity and oversight, with new trees maximising the amount of greening. The riverfront will be open for walking and cycling and two public green spaces are included; one south-eastern park facing the river and a smaller square opposite St Mark’s Church.

Commercial spaces have been carefully positioned around the newly proposed park and leisure facility, with the other units being at key northern entry points to the site.

Plans showing typical upper floors. The area in white is the second phase in 'outline'.
